Surgery Information
At Midwest Retina, our experienced physicians use the most advanced technology and a patient-centered approach to create the best treatment plan for each patient. Our physicians consult regularly on challenging cases to design effective surgical plans.
Surgery in an operating room may be necessary to repair retinal detachments, bleeding, scarring conditions, or trauma. Almost all of our surgeries are performed as an outpatient procedure at one of two ambulatory surgery centers. The most common procedure our physicians perform in the operating room is a pars plana vitrectomy. Below is a link to the American Society of Retinal Specialist fact sheet about vitrectomy for your convenience.
Below is some useful information regarding surgery scheduling, our surgery centers, and equipment that may be necessary in the post-operative period.
While you’re in our care, your Midwest Retina physician will keep your referring doctor up-to-date regarding your treatment and progress. When your condition is stabilized, you may continue ongoing care with your comprehensive ophthalmologist or optometrist.
Surgical Scheduling
If your doctor is recommending surgery for your retinal condition, you will meet with one of our experienced surgical schedulers who will guide you through the process or preparing for surgery. They will assist you with scheduling the time and date of your surgery, make sure the proper per-operative evaluation is coordinated with your primary care provider, and that you understand how your insurance will help with covering your procedure. If you are scheduled for or in the process of being scheduled for surgery, you can contact one of our surgical schedulers by emailing our main office.
